Tips From The Color Box By Maria
Winter Make Up  and Beauty Tip’s What do you wear in the Winter?

Hi this Maria MUA and CEO of The Color Box By Maria and we have a few tips for you in regards to Make up and winter the winter months. Many cosmetic companies launch autumn/winter collections full of darker shades for eye and lip makeup colors; dark grays, plums, burgundies, deep Spanish reds, and dark chocolate browns tend to be the popular colors.

The fall/winter fashion shows tend to give the direction as to what colors will be used for these seasons. Many of the products are of a matte finish which look better in the winter, however there are no rules for which colors to use on a seasonal basis.  But remember you have a natural look, a daytime look, a nighttime look and even that glam bam runway look. Make sure that choose that make up look that is appropriate.

Lips:
Cracked lips are the number one problem in winter. If your lips are super dry, leave the lipstick alone and use tinted lip balm. This is available in many different colors. You will get smooth, healthy-looking lips with a beautiful sheen. Make sure the balm has SPF and UVA/UVB protection.  Invest in exfoliating products for your lips regularly throughout the cold months. That way you will get rid of the dry flakes on the surface of your lips.

Blush
Blush is a key item to the winter makeup.  Blush gives your skin and wakes up your whole face. Use the powder formulas work better in the winter rather than the gel or cream.   The color of your blush is up to you and your taste.  Lay off the bronzes because they do not look great in the winter. Use that proper brush to apply your blush.

Hands and Nails
I have to admit that when you get older you tend to loose moisture in your hands. I also wash my hand frequently so this alone causes a loss of moisture. I carry lotion with me in all my handbags. My favorite lotion is from the Bath and Body Works line, Lay It On Thick and Look Ma No Hands. It is a very thick yet a little goes along way.  When in doubt, sleep with cotton gloves on after applying a thick layer of hand cream to your hands. In the morning your hands and cuticles will be soft and moisturized.

With these few tips not only will you be stylish and in fashion with the best of the girls on the runway but you will be well protected for the winter.

product review, motives, the color box by maria, youth in a bottle
Hello all you beauties, this is Maria Williams CEO of the Color Box By Maria. Today I decided to blog about a product that I really like. If you have reviewed my blogs before I always seem to come up with some great beauty tips. This past week, The Color Box did a fabulous runway show. The ladies were great models and we provided the make up for this event. I decided to put this product to the test! 10 Years Younger is one of my many favorite Motives products. This item really does the job! 10 Years Younger really sets your make up for a long lasting finish. This product completes your make up and does not to give you a “a matte or dry skin look” 10 Year Younger provides a light “dew moist and fresh look” . It seals in your make finished look for a long lasting wear even under hot lights. This little gem in a bottle really makes you look HD camera ready.

I used this on 12 models and all of their make up stayed in place.   10 Years Younger also is great in hydrating the skin and is very gentle great for sensitive skin as well.

If you are a true make up DIVA then you would not be caught dead with out a bottle of 10 Year Younger by Motives!  To place an order contact The Color Box By Maria @ 646 717 3020 or email us at thecolorbox69@ gmail.com

Hi this is Maria from The Color Box By Maria. As the summer officially fades and the fall and winter season is fast upon us. It seems like the new trend is the Bold Brass Lip. This is the hottest trend for Fall 2012.
lipstick, bold lips for fall, fall fashion, beauty, lipstick, makeup
Now you may be saying “WOW I just became accustom to my corals and pinks” which were a hit this summer but do I Dare make this move, how do I transition to the Bold Lip trend.

Despite of what one thinks, the lip is a beauty feature that tends to be the best feature and anyone can wear the Bold Lip trend for the fall. The key to this is first picking the right products and identifying the right undertone to your skin. The two most common tones are warm or cool.

Once you have established your undertone just like for entire face you will prep your lip. Use a lip balm with some moisturizer element. Make sure that you blot this off prior to applying your bold lip color.

Now you choose you lip color to apply. Make sure you have a good lip liner (See:
Five Fast  and Fun Beauty Tips) and a good lip brush to apply all products.

Five Fast  and Fun Beauty Tips from the Color Box By Maria

a good small makeup bag, lipstick, eyeliner, foundation
Hi everyone This is Maria CEO of from The Color Box By Maria. Here are your five, fast make up tips from the make up pro’s:

(1)  Invest in a good small make up bag for everyday to put in your bag or purse.

Dump the 99 cents bags!

(2)  Invest in a small brush kit.  A 7 piece kit is great.

(3)  Find your favorite colors that compliment your skin tone and purchase one palette set that has eye shadow, lipstick/gloss, and blush. Stop carrying these items as individual’s in your make up kit. You only need two eyes shadows, two lip colors and one blush in your palette for every day wear. Invest in one set that has warm colors and another set that has brighter colors. With these two palettes you can mix and match to achieve all the different looks you want.

(4)  Pick up a good lip primer to apply prior to your favorite lipstick!

(5)  Keep your brushes and palettes clean! Wipe them off, keep sealed and watch for expiration dates! Yes folks MAKE UP DOES GO BAD!

Foundation- this is not your mom’s make up anymore! Part 1

Hi everyone and I my name is Maria Williams the CEO of The Color Box By Maria. We are a full service make Artist Company and make up educational center.
makeup, makeup artists, women and skincare, foundation makeup, ethnic women makeup, bronx women, new york women
It seems that times have changed in the make up world and have improved for the better. Today make up is made easier and fun, but one area I find that women seem to struggle with is proper foundation. Foundation is what I call in the business “the basics of beauty and the stage for beauty. You can wear the best eye shadows, great blush and the baddest lipstick but of the foundation is wrong, you just don’t do justice to the make up nor are you enhancing your true beauty!

We have evolved from our so called “mom’ s make up” or the two colors of foundation “light and dark”. Now you can find foundation in the standard liquid, cream and cream to powder.   Although we have choices I still find that women are still in the struggle for that perfect foundation. So what is the answer?

As a Make Up Artist the key things that I find that solve this issue are the following:

(1)  Good skin care: cleanse your face and eye area prior to your make application

(2)  Moisturize: You must hydrate your skin/face prior to make up application. If your face is dry and you apply any make up product, you face will just “drink” the product into your skin.

(3)  Face Primer: face primer is the first layer before your foundation. The purpose of a primer is to even out your skin tone, helps your make up stay on for a longer period of time.

(4)  Have a quality foundation brush whether you use a liquid or powder foundation.

Once you have achieved the three above you are ready to apply your foundation.

skintelligence, makeup, skincare, workshops, colorbox makeup, bronx women
The favorite house pick by The Color Box By Maria are:

(1)  Moisturizer: Skintelligence Daily Moisture Enhancer. This is a product that I use every day just to moisturize my skin and prior to my make up application, but we use this on all our clients. This is a product that I found via Market America products.

(2)  Face Primer: Nurturing Force Instant Matte Anti Shine HD face primer for make up. This is in a cream form and easy to apply with your fingertips.

(3)  Brush: My all time favorites that each of the Color Box Girl use are (1) Foundation brush by MAC and (2) Motives Foundation brush. These brushes are easy to hold and the quality of the brush is excellent. These two brushes apply both liquid and powder and

(4)  Foundation: We at The Color Box like the Cover Girl line which has a great array of color and covers from liquid to powder. Cover Girl also address the different hues of African American skin complexions.

(5)  The Best Foundation: CUSTOM BLEND! The Color Box By Maria sells custom blend liquid and powder foundation to exactly match you skin complexion and undertones.  The advantages are that it is created for you. You can also pick the amount of coverage and consistency. You can add any extras to address dry skin, anti aging, matte or pearl/dew finish.   All of our custom blend products are natural and made for all skin types. If you want to know more about foundations, skin care and to get your custom blend foundation send The Color Box Glam quad a e mail @ thecolorbox69@gmail.com.

New York City’s Fashion Week Plus Night Out - in Review

9/12/2012

It is the famous Fashion Week here in NYC and this is a major event in the city. Twice a year in February and September designers come to the big city to preview and show off their new creations for the Spring/Summer collections.

So on September 6th 2012 I went to a fantastic event that kicked off Fashion Week called Plus Night Out!  I loved this event because it represented all of the curvy, full figured and plus size women!

This event was held at the Yotel Hotel in NYC and the host for this event was Ms.  Shanda Freeman the wife of DJ Fat Man Scoop.  Ms. Freeman showcased her dresses that are mocked wrapped or caftan in style. The pattern is the famous color blocked which I personally love and it flattering to the fuller figure. Her dresses can compliment and enhance multiple parts of your figure. If your full and busty the mock wrap style and perfect front cut will accentuate this area properly. If you are smaller on the top and fuller in the hip (hint hint like me!) this dress will place accent on your hips for it gives off a full cut with a form fit.  No matter where our curves fall these dresses hit your curves just right!
Plus Night Out, Fashion Week, Curvy Women, Fashion for Curvy Women in New York
I was also glad that as a designer Shanda took into consideration the shorter full figured woman like myself. Please designers not everybody is a 5’8! Little people 5’0 to 5’5 need clothes too Take into consideration their height and thickness!

To see Shanda collection go to www.curvysta.com. Her collection can be ordered here.

The other co-host of the night that added to this event was Doria Pagnotta of the reality show Jerselicious. Ms. Doria did a great job of keeping the audience involved!

Skorch Magazine was in attendance conducting a model search along with NFinite form looking for the next full figured model. Many women came out represented well!

Other vendors such as Go 2 Bras who participated in the runway show is an excellent vendor for plus size bras. The price point is excellent, the bras are quality made and the owner Connie Elder is great. Go to wwwgo2bras.com and see her collection of Bras.

Eddy and Bri were also in attendance and I enjoyed their collection of clothes. I liked the fact that the clothes can be mixed and matched for work and after work events as well. I must admit that Eddy and Bri have an excellent price point. The items are affordable for the everyday stay at home mom to the average working woman. Go to www.eddyandbri.com and view their collection!

So there you have my take on Plus Nigh Out for Fashion Week. This was a great event! What was interesting that this was a free event! Yes free folks! Everyone that I spoke to in the room was fantastic but most important gracious. Everyone in the room was passionate about the Pus Size industry and the room was full of confident, curvy, caring women Plus Night out ROCKED! SEE YA NEXT YEAR!

Peace and Blessings to all my full figured sisters

Facial Care Do we really have to buy this stuff!

9/10/2012

Hi ladies and gents (yes I say gents because men should practice good skin care as well). A part of good hygiene is great skin care. Today on the market there are so many products one can become dizzy! Terms such as anti-aging alone are enough to make a person crazy! LOL!

Today these products can become expensive! Facial cleansers and scrubs can start at $3 and go up to $300 dollars. So what do you do if you if you can’t afford these products?!

Do It Your Self Facial Scrubs work just as well.
Many people are doing this in the privacy of their own home and turning this into a business. Many people prefer natural products.

I myself for the past year use a homemade facial scrub and face cream that my co-worker makes. I love this because it helps me with the dryness around my eye area. I wear a lot of false eyelashes and the fibers sometimes cause flaking and dryness. Her product is great and has a skin-healing element so if a little discoloration occurs I don’t have a light patch in that area.

Home remedy, facial scrubs, facial
So here are the 10 top facial scrubs that are easy to do and get.
All of these items are in your refrigerator or local grocery store!

Basic Baking Soda Scrub
2 to 3 Tbsp. Baking soda
Small amount of water

Mix the ingredients into a paste.
Using a circular motion, apply to face and gently scrub.

Basic Cornmeal Scrub
Slightly more potent than the baking soda scrub, this works best on a 2 to 3 day interval.
2 to 3 Tbsp. Cornmeal
Small amount of water

Mix and apply in the same manner as baking soda scrub.

Rose Almond Face Scrub
To brighten and soften skin.
1 tsp rosewater
1/2 tsp almond flour or finely ground almonds.

Mix into paste and apply.

Oatmeal Scrub
A stimulating, thoroughly cleansing 3-in-1 scrub! Smooths, tones, and hydrates.
1 Tbsp. ground oatmeal (use steel cut oats, not instant)
1 tsp. lemon juice
2 tsp. yogurt

Combine and apply.
Optional: let your scrub double as a mask! Let it sit a few minutes before scrubbing and rinsing.

Azuki Bean Scrub
Banish your blackheads. Especially effective for combination and oily skin types.
½ cup dried azuki beans

Grind beans. (Having a small coffee grinder set aside specifically for beauty recipes is a wise idea).
Add a little water to the mixture and apply.

Milk and Honey Scrub
Maximize or minimize its moisturizing effect at will.
Choose your dairy:
1 tsp Skim Milk (Oily skin)
1 tsp 2% Milk (Normal or combination)
1 tsp Cream (Dry)

1 tsp honey
1 tbsp ground almonds

Banana Scrub
A very finely textured, delicious-smelling scrub. Can double as a mask.
2 tsp mashed banana
2 tsp rolled oats
1 tsp milk
1 tsp honey

Honey Sugar Scrub
If you have ever used a body sugar scrub, you know how amazing they are. Work the same magic on your face!
1 tsp. of honey
1/2 tsp. of sugar (either cane or brown — both work well)

Blend in bowl. Apply.
Rinse very thoroughly, as this recipe can be slightly sticky.

Pumpkin, Sugar, and Spice Scrub
1/2 cup cooked or canned pumpkin, pureed
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

Blend in a bowl. Apply mixture to face (and body, if you really want to indulge yourself).

“Eat Your Greens” Facial Scrub
2 tsp organic wheat bran
2 tbsp organic oatmeal
2 tbsp olive oil soap, finely shredded
1 tsp dried parsley
1 part dried lettuce

Shave your favorite plant oil-based soap.
Grind parsley and lettuce with pestle in mortar. (We have tried this – you can also blend it in a processor).
Add soap shavings and mix thoroughly.
Whisk in the oatmeal and wheat brand and continue stirring until thoroughly mixed.

My favorite scrub is Honey Sugar Scrub. Try one of these scrubs and send me your testimony to thecolorbox69@gmail.com and we will pick the best story! The winner will receive 15.00 in make up products from The Color Box By Maria.

Good Luck and Happy scrubbing!

Product Blog The Temptu Air Brush Machine

Picture

Hi all this is Maria the CEO of the Color Box By Maria and I am a Make Up Artist.

In this business we use tons of different products and one product that I love and came across was the airbrush make up machine by TEMPTU.

Now I know that you have seen this product on an infomercial late at night and wondering if this really works.

As a make up artist, I try many difference products to achieve the best make up look for my clients. So I purchased the TEMPTU air brush machine and used it on my client and they love it. So here is why I really like the TEMPTU air brush machine to apply flawless make up:

Advantages:

(1)  The product is so easy to use. All you have to do is slide a color pod into the air gun and you are ready to airbrush.

(2)  The compressor is very light weight and easy to handle.  The compressor is very light in the sense that it is not loud. The motor is low.

(3)  The make up will not streak or run. The spray is very light so you get an even coverage so even if you concentrate in one area and think that you applied too much foundation “You can’t mess it up” .

(4)  The product is easy to apply. If you can make light circles then you can use this system.

(5)  Color matching is very easy. You will receive foundation that is a match to your skin complexion.

(6)  This system also allows you to air brush your lipstick, bronzer and eye shadow with the change of the color pod.

(7)  This product is water based so your pores do not clog and you face does not feel heavy. “SO IF YOU FALL ASLEEP IN YOUR MAKE UP YOUR WILL NOT BREAK OUT”

Disadvantages:

(1)  If you use this system for professional make up artist use. You can not do a custom blend foundation so you have to really match your client’s skin tone to the color chart and pick the correct color pod.

(2)   You would be required to purchase all of the foundation colors to meet your client’s needs. SO you need to look at what you feel comfortable in investing in.

So with that said would I recommend the TEMPTU air brush machine to apply foundation! Yes. HANDS DOWN I WOULD! The unit is easy to handle and the coverage is great. Also it does not hurt to practice because practice makes perfect!

Peace and Blessings
